Keep In Touch

This month has been a bit difficult to deal with. This past February 26 was the first anniversary of my Dad passing away. And today was the anniversary of the memorial service we held for Dad in Boise, ID. It is difficult to remember, but important to do so. My Dad was not the type of person to pick up the phone and chat, write letters, or send cards through the mail. I can relate to that. I hardly ever pick up the phone to call and just pass time away by chatting. When I call people, most of the time is just to talk about the reason I made the call and then end the call. No chit-chat, just the facts, thank you very much. Dad didn't even own a computer, even though he could build one from scratch, so there was no email either.

Computers are different for me. I don't mind email. I don't mind staying up all night working on it. I have friends all over the USA. Many of my friends I had before the Internet was available, but most of them use email.

So why this post? Mainly it is for a reminder to not forget your loved ones. Your parents, husbands, wives, brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles, cousins and your friends. Don't get so caught up in your life that you forget to send your brother's birthday card to him until two weeks AFTER his birthday. Don't become so focused on that next sale that you discover one day that six months have passed and you haven't talked to your Dad or your Mom, that you forgot their birthdays too. I pray that your family relations are much better than mine. All I have left is my sister and my brother, and he has cancer. The fact that he has cancer has not crumbled his life. He is still my brother and we do contact each other every month, whether it is just to say, "Hi, I was thinking about you. I wanted to tell you that. Have a great day!"

It is too late for my Mom and my Dad, but not too late for my brother, sister, aunts, uncles, cousins, and my friends. So keep in touch, will you? They will feel good inside and so will you.

New Coffee Mugs Arriving Soon!

Smigly Gifts has had issues with its current coffee mug supplier, and we have found a new supplier. Within a week, we should have 14 different mug styles arriving to the warehouse. These mugs will range from Garfield, beach scenes, wildlife, racecars, "Over the Hill", to gardening and "regular" birthdays. Future styles include graduation, puppies, kitties, and more Garfield editions. As this new supplier obtains more styles, so will Smigly Gifts.

Many people are concerned about health issues, and so am I. This was the main reason for this shift. All our past customers and future customers can rest assured that any future items that are used for food and/or beverages will be FDA-approved. So be sure to visit Smigly Gifts online today at http://mysmigly.com/ , the Internet gift store that sells gifts ... from the heart!

A New Store on the Block

Welcome to the Smigly Gifts Blog! It has been a ride! The set-up, coding, inputting and stocking of inventory, pricing, testing, and continual prayer have helped me learn about opening an online store. Prayer has also prevented me from yanking my hair out and having a temper tantrum when fixing one problem resulted in new "issues". And I am still enjoying the ride! My new website just went live on March 20, 2009! I have made my first sale! How glorious!

My website, http://mysmigly.com/ , is a venture into breaking free from working the corporate life into working for myself. A statement to the world that "...with God, all things are possible!"

This blog is here to write about issues related to small, Christian-owned business. Yes, this is a way to organize my thoughts and ideas concerning items I can offer for sale. Perhaps, I might be considering branching my store into gift cards, gift certificates, gift baskets, etc. It is something to consider.

So, what is Smigly Gifts? It is an online gift store which sells, primarily, inspirational gifts. Our customer base is rather broad. Basically anyone who wants to buy a gift for a friend, co-worker, family member, etc.

Our inventory includes books, bookends, coffee mugs, jewelry, figurines, toys, and some collectible offerings as well.

I leave you with this message of faith and hope:

Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go. -- Joshua 1:9
